Occult and Evil 3D Printed Terrain for D&D

October 5, 2019 by Ashley

3D print a summoning circle and a sacrificial altar to add a little flare to your next encounter with evil cultists.

Orcus, the prince of Undeath, is the big baddie in my current D&D campaign. I 3D printed some occult and evil terrain because eventually we’re going to encounter cultists, summoning circles and sacrificial altars.

The 3D Models

I purchased the Occult and Evil set of 3D printable files from Hero’s Hoard. From the set I printed:

  • A sacrificial altar
  • Summoning Circle
  • Two Skull Pillars
  • Jail Cell (not shown, I forgot to take pictures)

Filament

I printed all the items with black PLA from Atomic Filament. This allowed me to skip priming the parts before painting.

Painting

My paint job for the occult and evil items was pretty simple:

  1. Dry brush with a medium gray
  2. Dry brush with a light gray
  3. Very, very light dry brush with white (just to highlight the edges of parts)

After the base gray was dried, I just painted in the small details. For the sacrificial altar, I added a little Mod Podge dimensional magic in the pool to give it a nice water-like effect. I also covered the blood on the bed of the altar with a gloss varnish.

I’m pretty happy with how these items came out and look forward to seeing them hit the game table!
