In the summer of 2012, I attended my first gaming convention: Gen Con. It was a wonderful experience, and I have been back every year since. Here are a few lessons learned from our first convention:
- Don’t schedule any events before 10 am. After a late night of gaming, we really wanted to sleep in. Now we won’t schedule anything before noon.
- Try something new. We did not try as many new things as we should have during the con. Now each year we make it a big priority to try something different.
- Create a budget for the Exhibit Hall and stick to it! We were like a kid in a candy shop the moment we entered the Exhibit Hall, and we went overboard with our purchases. In the following years, we spent money responsibly.
